The NV|Forward Graduate Apprenticeship Program in Teaching, formerly known as the Accelerated Alternate Route to Licensure program or A-ARL, is an innovative fast-track for individuals who have already earned a bachelor’s degree in a non-education field who interested in teaching in Nevada.

We offer graduate programs in early childhood education (birth-2nd grade), elementary education (K-8th grade), special education (generalist), and secondary education (7-12th grade career & technical education (CTE), English, math, physical education (PE), social studies, and world languages).*

Accelerated coursework and program flexibility

Students complete all required coursework to earn a degree and complete the requirements to apply for educator licensure in Nevada in a single year.

Continuous support services

Students receive concierge support and success coaching to help smooth the path along the way to reaching their academic goals.

Do I qualify?

You may qualify for the Graduate Apprenticeship Program if you:

  • Are interested in working in early childhood, elementary, secondary*, or special education in a Nevada school AND are not already a licensed teacher (unlicensed substitute teachers may apply)
  • Have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a non-education field.

    NOTE: Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 Cumulative GPA or a 3.0 GPA over the last 60 credits (two years)
  • Are comfortable working in a fast-paced courses and environments

    READ: All candidates must be employed as a teacher of record (long-term sub/SOSA is acceptable) in a school setting for the duration of the program**

Note: Academic programs may have additional application requirements. 

*Secondary Education programs offered: Career & Technical Education (CTE), English, Math, Physical Education (PE), Social Studies, and World Languages.

**Applicants not currently employed in a school setting may be admitted under the condition that they 1) pass required competency exam(s) for licensure per NDE (i.e., Praxis, CBEST, ACT, or SAT) and 2) begin working in an applicable position in a Nevada public school setting before the start of the next K-12 school semester.

Graduate Apprenticeship Timeline

Apply to Our program

The program accepts students once per year with the program beginning in Summer.

Applications for our program are currently paused. Please fill out our interest form below to be contacted when a new cohort is announced.

2.

Application & Transcript Review

All students’ transcripts and prior coursework are reviewed during the application process. Your transcripts cannot be reviewed without applying.

Completed within approx. 3-4 weeks of submission — Students are asked to keep an eye on their emails for updates!

Pass Competency Exam(s) &/OR Sub License

A requirement of the ARL program is successfully passing all competency examinations required for licensure by the Nevada Department of Education. Students who do not pass competency exams or earn an ARL license are required to obtain their substitute license.

4.

Employment in an nevada school

Students joining the program must find employment as a teacher of record or long-term substitute beginning the fall semester (start of K-12 academic year) after their first summer of coursework.

Employment is a Federally mandated requirement of the Apprenticeship program.

5.

Complete Coursework

Depending on the courses needed and academic program, students will be enrolled in 4- and 8-week blocks of courses to complete all program and licensure requirements.

Typically, 3-4 semesters of coursework to complete — Our team enrolls you in everything you need!

6.

Graduate & Continue teaching

When all courses have been completed successfully, students graduate with a master’s degree in their program area. Many students continue to serve in the positions they had during their program.
